They need to follow the guidelines that we give them," says Tsang.Those guidelines include dietary and exercise recommendations.But she says that accupuncture for weight loss can be quite effective. The patient needs to put forth some effort too. He estimates that 70 to 75% of the patients who come to him for weight loss are successful.Other acupuncturists are more cautious about setting expectations for success.Anna Tsang has practiced in Littleton for seven years, and she is academic dean at the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine."They think that the acupuncture is going to automatically take away the pounds. Many acupuncturists ask for a ten-session commitment, with each visit ranging from $50 to $100 each.Kim says the most weight he has seen someone lose through acupuncture is about 70 pounds. She says the patients at her Denver office notice they're not as hungry."What I'm finding in my practice is that maybe the third to the fifth treatment, there is a substantial shift in the amount of food necessary to feel full," she says.A recent trip back home to England ("I was more than naughty!") put a few pounds back on but Margaret Kaylor still believes that acupuncture works."The only thing that's stopping me from going back is the expense," she says.Kim says that people can expect to lose about a pound per 30-minute session. But she found the treatments so relaxing that she could have fallen asleep.Mary Kay Christian returned earlier this year from China, where she studied acupuncture specifically for weight loss.
